(TLDR: I taught a kid to draw several years ago and his mom told me he's gotten really good and credits me since I taught him.)
I'm in tears RN. After having a rough timedealing with domestic/virtual disputes, trying to get everything I need sorted for my trips, being disrespected, standing up for myself and having to leaving an opportunity that could've "made or broke me":
I received a message from a friend that soothed my soul in a way that has me grateful for what I am able to do and are capable of.
Years ago my friend needed assistance taking care of her kids while she and her husband both were dealing with some substance abuse issues, even though I was going through my own issues, I wasn't gonna lose my family over it, so I did everything I could to make sure their kids never knew I was high, were safe, taken care of, fed, and got to school on time.
Today she posted about her eldest son turning 18 and I messaged her about oh how time flies! Tell him I said happy birthday for me; this was the following:
I took a picture of the exact moment he talked to his mom about (making sure not to get his face in it because he wasn't an adult yet). He asked how I had gotten so good at art, I explained it was because I had an art teacher who listened to me and ultimately saved me from suicide as a teen.
The impact that you have on someones life is something that will stay with not only them but you.
Make a positive impact on people, make such a positive impact that it influences them to strive to be the best they can be even years later.
