One of my greatest/worst cringe moments is when I remember bumping into Pete Postlethwaite in a bar in Belfast while in the middle of a conversation with a friend about Postlethwaite's acting. I disagreed with Mr P when he said it was a serendipity, and rebutted: "No, it's more of a real cool coincidence".
It was several years before I learned the definition of 'serendipity'.
I remembered all this while running this morning and recoiled so hard I stepped off the pavement into traffic.
