Atheism literally means the absence of belief that any deities exist. Agnosticism, on the other hand, is the belief that it is unknowable whether deities exist or not. So literally the opposite of what you seem to have heard; agnosticism is a philosphy with the tenet "I don't know & you can't know either", while atheism is simply a word describing not believing in gods.
Also, remember: A negative can't be proven & so requires no evidence.
