Uh, I'd jump at the chance to buy direct from the manufacturer just like I do for other items. I'd absolutely love to avoid the dealer middleman and get a menu price.
Toyota did this with Scion a while back and it was the easiest, lowest stress car purchase I've ever made. I picked options, got a total, signed the sheet and that was it. My car showed up in 6 weeks just like I built it.
