"content": "I think WWII was a more direct influence on all the things I mentioned than just \"good vs. evil\". George Lucas specifically designed the rebels in Star Wars to look like American GIs and the Empire to look like the Nazis. Harry Potter had Voldemort basically motivated by fantasy Nazism with mudbloods filling the role of Jews. Indiana Jones and Captain America both have explicitly Nazi villains. Lord of the Rings is not as directly WWII influenced, and certainly WWI was an influence on it too. but it was not \"preempting\" WWII--Tolkien didn't finish it until 1949 and it wasn't published until the 50s, and even when he started in 1937 it was obvious that war was coming---war had already broken out in China and Spain, and France and the USSR were already rearming",
