being a Latter-day Saint myself, I agree. Mostly it's because the church is volunteer led, and the only people who have time to volunteer the amount of time it takes to fill higher local/regional positions in the church are wealthy.

Global leaders get a modest stipend but wouldn't be noticed and called to such leadership without being in volunteer roles first.
