Ah, well gossip is using since/until as well as limit in order to load chunks at a time with a known number of events. It also specifies kinds (that the user has selected and that gossip knows how to display). But it still worked pretty well. I'll read the github notes shortly.

I have viewed my feed in gossip (gossip lets you view a relay's global feed) and it was tailored to me.
One note seemed strangely irrelevant (not very connected to me nor reacted to much).
It appeared to me that as I went down the feed, there were fewer events per time period, and those had to be much more popular (based on reactions). Which makes sense.
I'd love an English description of the algorithm.

I didn't know LMDB has issues on ARM. If you have compile failures, or runtime issues with LMDB data corruption, please file an issue on github so I can try to find the problem https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip
Also, gossip compiles on windows without needing WSL. You just need a git-bash shell to run the commands from.

I only disagree with that critique a little bit.
I shouldn't have said most people are good (I'm not even sure what good means) what I should have said is that most people are "mostly harmless" (as opposed to psychopathic power seekers). Hat tip to the late Douglas Adams.
Most Israelis are not happy with Netanyahu and some 2 million are leaving or in the process of leaving because he has escalated which makes them less safe. I'm not saying they don't want Arab blood, but they don't want to live in fear of counterattacks... which is why I had to make the next paragraph to explain that.

Day 12 of keto diet. I'm only down 1.3 kg (about the weight of glycogen and water) so far. I hit that number already on day 3, so really no progress for 9 days now. I'm rather disappointed, I thought I could eat as much as I want and still lose weight. Maybe the reason this works for so many people is that they were previously eating junk... whereas I was not previously eating junk. I've been using strips to test my ketosis and I've stayed in ketosis the whole time.
On the plus side the diet is quite satiating. It's super easy to do. I don't have cravings and don't have to use will-power to make it through. I could do this forever if I chose to, nearly effortlessly.
The other plus is my IBS is gone. This isn't the first time I've been able to do that -- just giving up grains, milk and coffee caused it to go away previously. I've identified all three of those as culprits, each multiplying the effect of the others.
Only I'm not convinced that eating a diet that doesn't cause weight loss but does jack up my LDL is a good idea (please don't respond with "LDL is good" unless you personally authored the study ok? I don't draw scientific conclusions from Internet advisors).
So I'll probably move back to a grain-free (but with beans), milk-free (but with cheese), sugar-free, heavy vegetable and meat diet with fruit in season.... but I'll give keto a bit longer.

A lot of things went wrong for me today. I don't even want to explain them, it was just one of those days where not only did I make little progress, a slid way backwards with multiple things breaking and things I rely upon failing.
I just wanted to say to anybody out there who is also having a bad day: you are not alone. The universe isn't entirely crap.

None of these labels apply to me. I am firmly against using one definition of a group of people (the label) and then assigning more properties to that label. It would be a statistical near impossibility for such to be accurate.

If you are confused by that last one, my view is that "the river to the sea" ain't gonna happen for Palestine. Some people in Russia making decisions are evil. I reckon that some people in Ukraine are evil toop. Evil does not justify more evil. The only solace I can take is that some evil people are killing some other evil people, which means less evil people in the end.

Well that paper is very inclusive, and recognizes the cultural construction of gender (red flag).
I'd say that yes men get raped in war by other men (rarely though, who the fuck does that?), and men get raped by other men (gay ones) in peace from time to time, especially weak men by strong men. And very rarely a woman rapes a man. But I just don't think 30% properly accounts for all the rapes of women that go unreported. It doesn't smell right. I have no special knowledge here though.

My understanding was the 1953 coup (CIA TP AJAX) installed a pro-Western Shah (Mohammad Reza Shah) and somehow weakened the Majlis (can't recall how) and the 1979 revolution was to kick America out and they needed a strong force to do that... one that is now a bit too oppressive in domestic terms. Correct me where I'm wrong. I think the US/Israel want to put the Pahlavi monarchy back in power.

I'm playing to the American Republican, influenced by the Tommy Robinson stories of British muslim immigrants rape gangs in the UK that many American conservatives believe (I remain undecided) in order to make a point. It should be working. It gets the env variable and makes that a subdirectory of your gossip dir. Then it starts a new database in the subdirectory.
There are a few cases it might print an error (watch for errors at startup) like "cache" (reserved) or anything with a "/" in it or otherwise is not a simple directory name.
Make sure the env variable is getting passed to the gossip process either by exporting it from your shell (e.g. export GOSSIP_DIR=blah) or typing it on the same command line as gossip (e.g. GOSSIP_DIR=blah ./target/release/gossip)

If a relay doesn't accept posts from random pubkeys (usually for spam prevention purposes).... how could gossip test that it would work well as an inbox? I can't create new events signed by your friends. Best I can do is make up a random keypair which will get rejected. Basically I think inbox suitability cannot be tested on such relays. Gossip will give such relays an X for inbox usage because I have no way to otherwise know, but the (OK, false, msg) message will be available as a hover-popup to users so that relays have a chance to explain themselves.

It will just be a manual test that only happens when you choose a relay to test and press the test button. I'm not even sure I should bother persisting the results beyond a restart, or even preventing double-click from testing twice.
So yes you could imagine better more automatic things, but this should save people 98% of the time they currently have to spend researching which relays are appropriate for which purposes. I probably shouldn't announce things before I've finished writing them but i'm pretty excited about this.
Gossip will soon have an embedded mini relay tester that will tell you if a relay is suitable for outbox, private inbox, public inbox, or DM usage.
I think the proliferation of many different kinds of relays for many different purposes has made the situation for end users very difficult, and this is going to help a lot... it is better than trusting a relay to tell you what it does. It will work for paid relays too (once you have paid) as it uses your keypair to test.

Yes the United States is targetted by Israel. This is why so many people in the United States are pro-Israel. Yes she does. Her diet is mostly raw meat with the bones. Chicken and lamb, kangaroo based kibble (smells like cereal more than kangaroo), rotten dead rabbits she finds, freshly shot rabbits, possums from time to time, sheep shit (her choice not mine) and the occasional long blades of grass, dried duck snacks, peanut butter, and tiny bits of (toxic in high quantity) chocolate, maybe a few almonds, cottage cheese from the bottom of the container, yogurt from the bottom of the container.

Thanks. Yes we are complicated and all somewhat different. I experiment on myself a lot and I take a lot of clues from evolution, some evolutionary arguments are very convincing. Gluten alone didn't make much difference in my case, but cutting out coffee+milk+wheat for 2 weeks did fix my IBS for a while (until I started cheating)... it took almost 2 weeks for the result to occur which is probably why it has been so hard in the past to test foods (I didn't know I had to wait so long). HIIT is great. I climb hills as fast as I can, forcing myself to over-breathe makes it easier. My current keto diet is not a short-term change, it is a short-term experiment. I will evaluate what to take from it after I'm done experimenting.

I keep your theory in a superposition of possibilities, but it's not a strong one in my book. Russia has MASSIVE mineral resources that are untapped... the limiting factor is people and infrastructure, not underground resources. There is no logic to getting more resources when they can't harvest all the resources they already have. OTOH if these resource dots already have infrastructure pulling out resource that would be different but I don't tihnk WaPo used such dots.
I think Russia wants to maintain it's Naval presence at Sevastopol and to never be cut off from it (via Kerch bridge attacks) and so they wanted a "land bridge" all along the north from Rostov-on-Don across and right down E105 to always have access to their critical naval port. I don't think they want to capture any more of Ukraine but are taking it because it strengthens their negotiating position.
None of this means Ukraine shouldn't be fighting them back. If I were Ukraine I'd be doing everything I could to fight them back. But I'd also prioritize what matters most and understand what matters most to my enemy so that some kind of settlement could be made, and try to move the situation towards a peace.
You also argue that "killing people is a part of self-defense." Turn that around. Perhaps (another theory) Russia killed people in Eastern Ukraine for self defense. We have even NY Times articles that the US was installing military right along the Russian border including CIA bases. I think this possibility is strong.
I wouldn't be wed to just one explanation too tightly, and most things are decided based on multiple reasons.

But I'm not convinced that longterm keto is without risk. I think it raises the risk of colon cancer and atherosclerosis very significantly. I've talked to doctors who have told me they are seeing a huge uptick of young people with colon cancer, far more than ever before, just in the last 5 years. And I notice that is when carnivore diet became popular. And I notice that medical research going back many decades has made that association before many times. So I have a hypothesis and I'm running with it.
Of course medical science might be wrong, or misinterpreted or whatever, but I don't want to argue this. We can just agree to disagree. I just wanted to state my position so you understand my personal choice here.
I'm only in it for the short term. I will lose weight, I will see what all the fuss is about, and then I will slowly adjust the diet and try to keep the weight off.

I'm not going to pretend Iran is a good country without serious serious problems. Maybe they killed civilians. But I heard from an Israeli news source that only 2 people had minor injuries from Iran's attack. Did that get updated?
Iran clearly is trying to do the most limited response it can under Article 51. It cannot just be attacked and not respond, that is military suicide. Buit it doesn't want a war. It wants friendly relationship with the USA. It wants a new nuclear deal and sanctions lifted. Netanyahu is determined to scuttle anything like that.
Also, if the USA is not responsible for the military actions of Ukraine, then Iran is not responsible for the military actions of Hezbollah.

I've practiced "sugar control" for 30 years. Even small amounts of sugar tastes too sweet for me. I don't crave it, I am repulsed by sweet tastes. I'm very much "off of sugar".
And intermittant fasting does work for me. But it isn't always easy, and the effort psychologically detracts from other things I'm trying to put effort into.

Ok fine. I give up. I am going to try Keto. Too many of you who I respect swear by it. And I've recently gotten heavy for unclear reasons. I need an emergency measure, and strict fasting erodes muscle.
I"m not worried about the saturated fat. If you can't keep those levels below about 9% of energy, then you aren't getting the cardiovascular benefit of that "trick". Once you are eating more than that, the amount doesn't matter (it is a sharp S curve). A few months of "normal" saturated fat intake is in no way going to offset the benefit of the weight loss.
I'm not worried about high protein intake. I expect to get 30% of my energy from my own body fat; I'm not replacing a 2500 kCal diet with 2500 kCal of meat... that would be mad. It is more like fasting augmented with some meat.
I'm not going strictly carnavore, but pretty close. I will have salt, papper, tea, coffee, miso soup, kimchi, metamucil.
I'm starting at 104.9 kg.
Advice and support is welcome.

If you want to try, cd into packaging/flatpak and run 'build_flatpak.sh'.
For some reason it pulls/uses rust 1.77.2 which is too old for some of the deps. I can't figure out why it is using that since both rust installs on my system are 1.80.

I wouldn't call it a simple hack, not as easy as a pill or athletic tape. But I benefit from that and I concur. If you are going for more than 1 day I would use a protein drink and weight training (including hill climbing) to avoid muscle loss... so not a strict fast for too long. Even if you have tons of body fat, you burn both fat and muscle during a fast once you deplete your glycogen which happens in about a day.

Everybody hopes for some simple trick that will make all their problems go away. Avoiding gluten, avoiding blue light, keto, etc, etc. Most of these interventions have no effect on most people.
And even a major intervention like a CPAP machine isn't curing my daytime sleepiness!
When I think back over my life, only twice was there a simple fix for something:
1) losec cured (or at least put into longterm remission) my many-year-long perma-heartburn (it probably worsened my IBS though)
2) athletic tape cured my longterm plantar fasciitis. Yes, $4 of tape beats $400 orthotics every day of the week.
So it is possible for "one simple trick" to work, but these are rare things.
But if you have a story of a simple thing that made a world of difference in a longterm way, please share.
