GM guys. Let's take a moment to appreciate how inherently challenging it is to build decentralized systems. Just think if all we had to do was trust a big central database. It would be insanely convenient, and we'd have a lot more bandwidth to focus on the things that matter like UX. Solving decentralized systems is an entire class of problems which logarithmically increases UX challenges.

Relays that want to be public or semi-public need more ways to discern an npub that has a real person behind it from an automated sybil attack, and this is a great idea.
But instead of selling npubs someone should sell badges.
But if you're doing it from a physical location then a badge could just be given for free as long as the process can't be automated.

GM. Just woke from a weird dream. There was a dead body found at a 'local' college. Not sure what college or what town I was in. Felt local to me, but wasn't where I live now.
I took pics of the body and interviewed a police officer at the scene. I was doing a write-up for the college, or at least I said I was... I wasn't being honest when I said it to the cop. Not sure why I wouldn't do that.
Dead guy's wallet was also found near the school pool, which was in a building near by, but still a few hundred yards from the body that was outside.
Officers name was clear in the dream. Even had a unique spelling. I'm having a hard time recalling now. 3 letter first name is all I can remember.
I took pics of the wallet as well.
Story was there was a note inside the wallet, but the wallet was closed and I wasn't supposed to open it. The note was apparantly something like a suicide note maybe, written like a ransom note with the letters cut from a magize or something. I never saw it.
There was an FBI guy on site who knew my name and phone number without me offering. I was connected personally to this guy somehow, maybe through family or something. I knew him, but was still surprised when I received a text from him that spelled out the officers name for me after I had asked him.
I asked because after the intervjew woth the police officer, I realized I hadn't written it down.
And there was this girl who spoon fed me some sort of ice cream or other desert. It was distracting me from my task and I eventually had to run to take the pics of the wallet before the pool area closed.
Woke up struggling to open the camera app to take pics of the wallet as they were telling me to leave.

I did, it is better, but also kinda sucks. In my understanding you have to rely on some big servers that keep the full history of all nullifiers forever so they can compute proofs on behalf of normal users. How much can that scale, if each person is making 3 transactions per day, and if each transaction will use more 2 nullifiers on average due to mixed inputs? That's over a petabyte per year just in storage.

This is true. If Monero adopted Drivechains I think it could become a real contender. Still, though, it would have to migrate most of its activity to the sidechain and make mainchain very small, in that sense it would be basically the same as eCash, only with a bigger initial user base and name recognition.
The bigger question to me is: can Monero scale to billions of people via Thunder-style sidechains but with Monero technology? If yes then those sidechains should probably be used in eCash instead, but I don't know.

Even if we assume away the problem of data availability it wouldn't be great to have the entirety of the world's monetary transactions depend on a single company building the blocks and publishing zk-proofs. I guess you can say this block generation can be made to be more open, but I think the incentives are that it would be very centralized regardless, no?
It's a similar problem of Spark: even if you could make it be totally trustless it would still be bad for it to be controlled by a single company.

Reminds me i've been thinking about nsites and how they could could host the xml... if an nsite's gateway domain goes down, clients could query the gateway they know for the source npub. The hard part in this is moving existing subscribers over from the exisiting xml URL, as always.
Yes! It looks fantastic, search is lightning fast (albeit not very precise or complete), best implementation of podroll i've seen! What makes me a little wary about pc2, is the trauma from having been rugged of a domain name. I ran my first podcast in mid 00s on a drupal hosted on http://reset.mxx.ch ... and mxx.ch was not mine. All the domains that i control today are at the mercy of me being able to pay their rent on time to the registrar. Of course, it's possible to build clients that would look for the media files on different blossoms, but the actual xml i really wish i could point to in a different way than a single static URL.
This is not a critique of the protocol, I love it, it's ecosystem and most of all its community. It serves its purpose more than well. I'm just a bit paranoid about the type of internet that is about to come and thus quite bullish about the paradigm that nostr is offering us.

I used to think there were two ways of scaling Bitcoin: one would be with trusted entities, i.e. banks, but deployed in a decentralized way that limited liability and government capture, and the other way was with Drivechain.
Given what we're seeing with all the Lightning custodial wallets being targeted, implementing full KYC and migrating to Spark (which is becoming almost the one world central bank) that first option is looking worse.
(To be fair my plan was never to have these companies be the custodians in the first place, but it was a bad plan anyway.)

Paul Sztorc's explanations apparently don't click easily for most people, but to me they are pretty good. I guess you have to try multiple of these explanations from others until one of them makes sense.
Drivechain enables so much it's hard to describe, we wasted too much time defending the idea from bad repeated criticisms we forget to advertise the benefits:
- absurd self-custodial scaling for payments, such that Bitcoin payments for everything everywhere can finally be a reality;
- enabling everything that can be imagined as working on a "blockchain" immediately in Bitcoin without reducing decentralization;
- all the network-effect, developer time and interest ever poured into other shitcoin projects going back to Bitcoin to make it immediately at least 3x in size and importance from the getgo (with of course much more growth that will come from this);
- perfect privacy (not for all forms of transactions, but at arms reach of anyone -- and could be the default for most payments);
- fixing the security budget (Bitconeirs in general like to forget about this, but someone has to pay the miners) while keeping transactions cheap for everybody;

Feeling alone around people, is just a reminder that we have not yet meet ourselves enough to appreciative our own company.
It means we are still in survival mode... trying to "think" who we are, by all the external inputs, instead of going inwards to bring back to awareness, who we truly are.
This has been my work of the last year's. Bringing myself into the present moment.
Spending a lot of time thinking, made me, for many years, even around people, to "not be there". At some point I had to really talk to myself, or the voice you have in your head:
" Look, this is not happening now, so, it's just illusion and not real. I want to be here, and now, which is all that exists."
Every time I caught myself, "travelling away", I brought myself to now.
Another layer that has been worked upon, I know others will follow.
The path of awakening will make you confront everything you were told you were....that you believed, and where you self abandoned. It's not easy to see it, accept it and integrate.
But, it's not impossible...and peace follows.

1. Bitcoin can only be saved by activating Drivechain.
2. Core will never merge or support Drivechain activation (or any soft-fork).
3. Miners won't move their asses until they see sufficient real-world evidence.
Any reasonable Bitcoiner accepting these premises should support the eCash hardfork even if they are initially disgusted by the idea of betraying the Bitcoin brand and the maximalist cult (I was myself), because from these premises we have to conclude that the only thing that can save Bitcoin is a real-world thriving ecosystem of useful sidechains paying fees to miners that finally convinces them to activate Drivechain via CUSF.
What does that mean? We chose something and we can never change our minds? No one should have a blind devotion to Bitcoin. Bitcoin was always only our best chance of fixing the problem of government monopoly over money issuance and related evils, not an idol to be worshipped.
If we spot something else that might give us a better chance we should definitely switch immediately.
With that said, Bitcoin is still miles ahead of anything else. If eCash proves to work even a little bit we may have a better chance of miners activating it on Bitcoin and that will be great.
If not, and if Bitcoiners don't come up with any better solutions (it is very unlikely they will, and even if they get a better solution it is even more unlikely that they will be able to activate it) that will mean that Bitcoin will die slowly over many decades. This will be bad as most people will not see it happening. Our only hope in this case is that eCash captures more users from outside the current Bitcoin sect and gets bigger faster than Bitcoin gets smaller. I guess this will have to happen anyway if it has any chances anyway.
