And that usually means dropping old jobs and old locations for new ones. Not leaving is the thing I always end up regretting, because I'm wondering what opportunities I threw away by staying with that employer.

Yes. An education problem. I don't know if it predated Mastodon, but it certainly became apparent once the first waves of Mastodon invaders entered the Fediverse. A lot of these folks would be perfect for Bluesky, because they have no clue or interest in decentralization or its benefits ... they just want "Twitter without Musk" or Twitter without whatever policy they got banned under.
I honestly don't think Gargron could say or do anything that would change them. They're intentionally ignorant of the nature and meaning of the network(s) they joined.
