Most autogynephilic men have a stable definition of gender identity based on sex stereotypes, but that's not everyone who proclaims a "gender identity." A single example, like Alex Drummond, a "lady" who sports a beard, destabilizes the definition.

It's just that, despite hysterical accusations of "biological essentialism" leveled at gender critical feminists (and biologists) for insisting on a stable definition of sex, the belief in an inner "gender identity" is also essentialist. It's postmodern in the sense that, at least on a sociological level, gender identity is unstable and undefined, but it is an innate essence. Gender identity is foundational to the individual ("you're literally killing me with your invalidation!!!"), yet it is immune to interrogation. It cannot be deconstructed.

I've been reading postmodern philosophy, asking how we got to a place where putting serial rapists in women's prisons is progressive. I'm reaching the conclusion that gender ideology is NOT an expression of postmodern philosophy and is not compatible with it. I'm open to debating the issues (or changing my mind) if others think differently.

Spinsters, my email groups and Facebook feeds are littered with women freaking out about Trump. Full freak out. Everything catastrophic he's going to do. And how he caused the South Korea military coup before he even took office!
I mean, I'm not thrilled about a Trump presidency. I'm worried about his competency and that of those around him, and I don't think he can deliver his promises. But I'm hoping for the best and waiting to freak out until there's something to freak out about. Maybe even then I won't freak out. After 15 years of transgender rule, maybe I've run out of freaks-outs.
For a moment I asked myself, Am I missing something? But I don't think so. It feels like social contagion. And I don't think it works to argue or rationalize with people who are in this freak-out. It reminds me of Y2K. Remember that? Some people are too young. That was a crazy time to be living in a liberal city. Some guy actually handed me a flyer about planning what to do with poop when Y2K happens. You can't respond rationally to people in freak-out mode. It just gets them more upset.
The hard fact of the matter is that we don't know what the future holds. I'm glad I live in a rural area, even though life is harder here in many ways. I live at a slower pace and I don't get thrown off balance easily.

US Spinsters: I need to find another general (not feminist or left or rightwing selective reporting) news source. I've been following Reuters, which is fairly neutral in most areas, but they are going behind a paywall. I won't send money to Reuters because, in spite of often having good reporting, they have produced misinformation to promote the girldick point of view and they seem to feed on child castration. (I think I read once that one of their key editorial overlords has a girldick.) I support the idea of paid subscription intellectually, and I think the difficulty monetizing reporting has partially led us to the biased state we are at today, but I need new dress shoes for work, as my present ones have a hole on the bottom and my socks get wet when I step in a puddle. So I need something free and fairly comprehensive, and it needs to be based in US. Any ideas?

Reuters has been doing an expose on the harms of OnlyFans, widely touted as the "good porn" site. It's going into a lot of the dimensions of that harm. This piece is on the wife of a dude spending the family income on the site. Nice to see the porn issue getting attention outside radfem and conservative news sites.

In fairness, she might have hidden or deleted, but Tilly was very non-repentant and ugly toward Dalcher and her defenders before and after she was fired. I've been hearing a lot of moaning over the past 10-12 years from people who have "lost friends" due to speaking out about their gender critical views. This has been one of the most painful parts of their journey for many people.
Maybe because I was never peaked, because I never bought the ideology, I haven't experienced the rejection, at least from people I care about. But I have found myself, over the years, growing more distant from people who tolerate my views but "see both sides" (even though they only truly listen to "both sides" from the gender cult), or who agree with me but still cater to the genderists, or who think I'm being too emotionally involved in something that isn't that big a deal, or who buy the ideology and use neo pronouns when talking privately to me about enbies we knew back when.
I've been increasingly feeling like a just want these people out of my life. Maybe I could introduce some sanity to their views on the subject, but I'm so tired of the work. Friends and I can agree not to discuss the topic, but of course it comes up, and usually they bring it up, because they're blind to the pervasiveness of the issue. And I don't even want to start a friendship with anyone who is so clueless that, for example, they display the "pride" flag of forced teaming thinking they're being tolerant. I think the way I can "calm down" about the issue, as I have been told many times to do, is to not have these people in my life.
What do other women think about this? Have you been losing friends not because they rejected you, but because you can't stand to be around the cult member (or their determined enables) anymore?

I think the "US rightwing" argument is also invoked because ad hominem arguments arise when you have no data or logic to back up your position. It's a lie that opponents of gender ideology are necessarily rightwing, but it's instructive that the argument is even used. Sowing discord must be as important a pillar of the ideology as money and instilling fear.

I've been thinking about this, and I wonder if the cops are adding charges for "hate speech" against them just to increase the number of offenses on the arrest. In other words, increasing the odds that after an arrest "something will stick." If that's the case, they're adding "hate speech" charges to an arrest not because they feel they've been injured, but simply because they can.

Gloria Steinem didn't stay quiet, at least for this round. She wrote an op-ed for The Advocate, where she exhorted feminists to honor transwomen and repeated a lot of the lies. She did criticize transsexualism as a concept in the 70s, but she saw which way the wind was blowing and decided (maybe 3 years ago or so?) to protect her legacy.

I can think of quite a few feminists who had a social media profile under their own names 8-10 years ago and they seem to have dropped off. I don't know if it was about being banned from social media or they were bullied into submission. Or maybe they are just doing quieter and more effective work. These women were not easily frightened, but TRAs here have gone after parents, children, business associates, colleagues, etc as an SOP. Think of how hard and how long Michfest held out, but it was starting to end the music careers of emerging women musicians, when it was designed to give them a boost. I think (I hope) those kinds of scorched earth tactics have lost their effectiveness now that conservatives are giving a signal boost. What happened to Riley was horrible, but one radfem was mobbed in a parking lot by a group of TRAs just for attending a bar one night and being recognized. They also threw a brick through her window, threatened her children, and put the address of her aging parents online with exhortions to the mob to go visit them. They slit the tires of a lesbian detransitioner for attending a radfem event. They tried to shut down the whole theology college where Ruth Barrett taught, and though the college stood by her, she stepped down rather than let a the college shutter for having her on the faculty. Eight or ten years ago, it was BAD here, and you didn't read about the things that happened in the Telegraph. Nor were they on Twitter, because everyone was banned.

Ha! I was just coming here to post Abigail's recent substack offering, which I got in my email, and here it is 1st on my news feed. She has finally convinced me that gender is a religion. I resisted that idea because the purpose of religion (in a purer sense) is to foster spiritual connection in seekers. But religion is often used as a source of power and control, and there gender mimics the worst of authoritarian religions. I was more struck by her contention that we not winning this war, despite a few encouraging developments. I have been feeling this strongly. I think people on Terf Island may have a sense of euphoria, but elsewhere things are grim. And it's very very hard to keep up interest and to keep speaking up. Women I knew online who were speaking about this 10 years ago--I don't see or hear about them anymore. I've seen so many get exhausted and drop off the radar.
