Hot take: I feel like most homeless people should just get deleted from existence. Or like rounded up and dumped as far away from society as possible. This isn't a classist thing, and we absolutely do need an equitable society that doesn't sustain itself on capitalist coercion of being rendered homeless if not complying with the system. However, the majority of homeless people I see/deal with are (a) actually insane, (b) addicted to substances, (c) usually both. ---They aren't simply downtrodden members of society trying to get back on their feet; They're nuisances which are incapable of existing within society. And, quite frankly, I'm tired of coexisting with them. And, once there were very useful and efficient alternatives, the whole cryptocurrency ship had already sailed and the market was full of useless shit-coins + the entire thing had left a sour taste in people's mouths.

And I store most important things either on my server (NextCloud) or on removable media storage for the portability. 🤷

They were born into objectively the most opulent and prosperous time in American history and basically guaranteed a comfortable, middle-class life if they did the bare minimum. All my FLAC files have full metadata information from MusicBrainz Picard. But, when I encode the FLACs as uncompressed AIFF via Audacity none of the metadata converts over. And, when I try loading the AIFFs into Picard, Picard throws errors and can't save any data to the files. Yet, everything plays these AIFF files without issue (VLC, Media Player, RekordBox)…… 🤔

toot.lgbt went out of their way to scrape this instance in order to issue a #fediblock against it, effectively working as a bad-actor to sabotage the domain.
This is (currently) a single-user instance, the timeline isn't public, and toot.lgbt (plus, all the instances they hang out with) were already blocked via /etc/hosts, meaning federation/communication to/from my server and theirs was impossible---they never saw, nor would have ever seen, any content from this instance (and vice-versa) past the point they were local-host loop-backed via /etc/hosts. Meaning, they purposely went out, and actively sought means of, retrieving content herein (to get upset over and then cry #fediblock).
If this isn't an example of maliciousness then I don't know what is. These Mastodon instances are a terroristic blight upon the Fediverse.

I think the benefits of the open source and libre software and operating system communities are that people can and will fork and develop their own solutions---and preexisting software can be interrogated and investigated for vulnerabilities in privacy and security. These are all concepts very popular and important amongst most users of Linux and the Fediverse. There are also a lot of marginalized groups and communities in this space of tech, not only politically marginalized groups (rightfully or wrongly so, e.g., "Nazis") for whom surveillance is of paramount importance.

That's literally the answer, yes. It basically just tries to do some pings or whatever to Google servers and if it gets data back it assumes that it has internet, otherwise it tells you that there's no internet. For example, whenever I'm in China my phone will always tell me that the WiFi networks I'm connected to lack internet...because it cannot reach Google servers (blocked via the "GFC"). Added a bunch of instances to the blocklist here. So easy to do with the Mitra .yaml config! Much prefer this to some admin GUI. Also, a lot easier to save and backup if you need to do a rebuild of the instance! ❤️ing Mitra!

Mitra being packaged as a .deb is a massive game-changer when it comes to deploying Fediverse instance software. It's so nice and easy to just spin up a database, install the .deb, connect the two via config and then setup Nginx and voila: being fully online and working and ready to go! (Instead of like 20 different moving parts all contingent on one another with various update schedules and bla bla bla 1 thing borks and the whole instance goes to hell.)
It's been so so so so nice to install and get working + it's very fast and lightweight and easy to manage/maintain. I think it's now my absolute favorite Fediverse software! I want to give a massive thanks to @nprofile…0tle for making and maintaining this phenomenal software!

@nprofile…azjd Spoken to a lot of USAF pilots and ground crews. The general sentiment is that the F-35 is a giant piece of shit aircraft. However, it's not really meant to be a good aircraft. It's a weapons platform. That's all it is. It's meant to fly out to X range and engage targets beyond visual range or deploy smaller weapons platforms therein or command drones from afar like a miniature AWACS of sorts and then return home without having ever really seen or directly engaged an enemy. It's not a great airplane and it's a hangar queen (read: maintenance hog)---but, it allows---if you buy into the US military industrial complex subscription program---pretty amazing warfare capabilities.
