No I can't.
There is no change at all in the results of the bin/console config output (print).
Actually even the settings send and "officially" accepted by the system do not show up in the print.
Latest thing I tried, totally feed up, was to send the commands several times and also making sure they end with a slash.
So I send:
/var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system url https://sub.domain.com/
system.url <= inversion.tupambae.com/
/var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system basepath /var/www/subdomaincom/
system.basepath <= /var/www/inversioncom/
/var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system url https://sub.domain.com/
system.url <= inversion.tupambae.com/

And right now it looks like it sticked, for now the site remains operative!

As last intent I tried to use the following commands to reset the two mentioned settings but the behaviour ist still the same:

Can't see a solution for this.

To me it "feels" that /var/www/subdomaincom is added by some mecanism to sub.domain.com. In particular because when setting specifically with the console command /var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system url -> https://sub.domain.com it works for some minutes.

The site works correctly for several minutes.
I can log in.
All pages show correctly, including admin pages.
Once it falls back to redirecting to:

.. I have to execute again:
/var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system url https://sub.domain.com
.. the console prints (as always):
system.url <= https://inversion.tupambae.com
and I can use the site again for several minutes before it falls back to the wrong behavior.

After a break I started to check out everything again and did several tests.
I changed the order of the lines in local.config.php and managed to get the exact same lines and order in the bin/console prints of both sites.
The problem stayed.
Than I checked example_local.config.php to compare and found that actually any of the lines figure there, so I deleted them all together.
Right now local.config.php looks like this:

I have no idea how to delete the remaining references. Those lines have to figure somewhere in the DB I guess, but again, no idea what lines to execute to display them or delete them:

system.basepath => /var/www/subdomain

It should not point to PHP-FPM
Changed this setting in the local.config.php to phpX.y. The sites are working like before.
I decided to copy/paste identically local.config.php of the site that does work to the one that doesn't, only changing the specific detail of DB and folder structure, and also made sure that the .conf files are alike.
Still having the same problem.
Compared the print of:
/var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config
in the few minutes it is working correctly after sending:
/var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system url https://sub.domain.com
and when it doesn't work but the prints are identically.
The print right now for both sites show the following quite at the bottom of the print:
system.url => subX.domain.com
system.php_path => /usr/bin/phpX.y
system.urlpath => /var/www/subXdomaincom/
system.ssl_policy => 1
system.basepath => /var/www/subXdomain/
The only difference between the two sites in the print is the following line quite at the top:
config.system.basepath => /
This line doesn't exist in the site that is working and I can't find a way to skip it or delete the /.
Meld (the diff program) shows a dot in front of the the slash ./, the simple text editor Kate doesn't.
Meld actually also shows the [enter] signs in the same way, a little bit less colored, in lines that have them, like it shows the dot.

Couldn't find any relevant setting or hint in static/defaults.config.php searching for the term path.
I did (again) a diff check of the print of bin/console config of the two subdomains.
The domain that doesn't work still displays the setting;

.. and I have no idea how to delete/ erase the /
The subdomain that works has the following line that doesn't show up in the one that doesn't work:

Hi there,
working on moving old friendica sites from a shared hosting to a VPS, I ran into the following problem I can't find a solution for. This actually happens with one 2021.04 instance but not with another (anymore), so I'm crosschecking all the settings but can't find how to solve this. Both sites were installed as 2012.04 from the start:

Even more astonishing, sending the following setting with the console:

.. the site is displayed and works as it should be for a few minutes, and than falls back into the wrong behavior, like if the worker changes something when ever the cron kicks in. In that time span I can log in and even go thru the admin settings but this setting is not available.
Intents to modify the following specifications in local.config.php didn't work out either:

At least I figured out/ realized that url. and system. actually shouldn't be used at all as:

Jede Plattform hat ihre stärken und Schwächen. Mastodon ist ideal zum chit-chat. Und wenn du einen friendicaKonto hast das deinem mastodonKonto folgt bekommt das jeden Tröt den du kommentierst, fav'st oder boostes in die Timeline gespühlt. Sprich, mastodon vom Handy zum fast and furious und friendica vom Desktop zum dezidierten Liebeschenken und und vernünftigen Texte aufsetzen.

Looks like it's starting to work out!
First publication of the #castoPod subdomain hosted on this very VPS server. This answer contains actually a direct link to a video snippet created on the instance and hosted on the instance. The setup is a littel weird, more like have way to the final goal, but with some work arounds usefull, including for the hosting of videos.

On friendica you do see the contacts of those who share with you because you get the posts your contacts comment on in your stream because of the comments @nprofile…pejw. You should consider to pay a lot of attention to hashtags and following those to get content of interest into your stream. Also usefull in the beginning can be to create a mastodon account on a bigger mastodon instance and drag content and contacts to your account with that account. Once you have a reasonable pool of input surfing becomes easier.

I often check on the public pages of the mastodon sites I have accounts on before I log in, lot's of content and contacts I find on those streams. And their differ astonishingly. Once you have the URL's of the interesting post's you simply put those in you search box, pull them onto the server your on and chime in from there:

One of the real differences of federation is that everything is kinda dispersed. To have two accounts on a monopolistic site doesn't make to much sense, out here that's completely different.

That's actually a little bit unexpected as the last setting set, if I remember well, was the one referenced in one of the comments bellow from two days ago adjusting default to 8.4:

Maybe some settings were changed while installing the castopod instances, a installation that ultimately worked well suddenly and I actually attributed to the fact that 8.4 was activated.
In other words .. still digging into this and working on the best settings for each instance and software and which default version would be best.

A video that explains, apparently on pure debian, that -fpm -> FastCGI actually externalizes the PHP processes from the apache server and also sums up how to set it up correctly.
So on one hand there is installing different PHP versions, in that regard the -fpm PPA ppa:ondrej/php adds access to newer PHP versions that are still in development branch and than there is the fact that php-fpm itself at the same time is a specific independent version of PHP that separates the PHP handling and processes from the apache server and gives more options to tweak and speed up the PHP processes.

The digitalocean tutorial used inicially displayed two entries as variation of the standard entry in a sitedomain.registry.conf file robably only the second is/was neccessary fior the correct setup of php, this has to be checked again, for the friendica sites and the castopod site.

This setting might address (somehow part of) the tweaking settings "editing php.ini" of friendica and at the same time the specific needs we'll have for example for castopod as we want to host a subdomain of that software for video and audio publications in the fediVerse and there for will need quite high values in terms of MB's, especially for videos.
Also, is there a way to define different values for different sites in the same php version configuration file?

Summing up right now:
On ubuntu in the case of friendica the php version the instance can or will use can be set by the conf file in:
/etc/apache2/sites-available/friendicaDomain.com.conf
or the specific friendica config file:
/var/www/friendicafolder/config/local.config.php.
In any case it's probably important to not manipulate both options but one or the other.
Could be important to have in mind what happens when the server software itself get's update or the friendica instance is updated.
In other words, one thing is if the reference goes to the general php setting of the server:
'php_path' => '/usr/bin/php'
When the server updates, the installed friendica version will have to be able to work with that newer php version.
(¿what about the recent ubuntu php update mentioned above by the ubuntu server, where exactly takes that APT check place, would an uninstall of "outdated versions" affect the general setting of different sites and php versions?)
If the friendica version get's updated but the server is stuck on an older not supported php version, there would probably occur issues too.
So one one hand there is to consider where the definition of the php path and version will be placed, on the other if the version itself should be hardcoded or left to the updates. If problems show up, in general terms the bug research does have to look the other way around, what php version is activated and where is that setting defined?

I was about to try to tease you into open one, as you could handle all of your fedinetworks from there, crossposting to D* and bluesky and so on.
Or even to set you up your own instance, if you have a domain or subdomain name.
Actually I guess you could create things like "Vorpremiere publishing for subscribers" and things like that.
Limiting access to published posts and even images. Not really paywalled, I guess we all hate that, but courtesies like things the commoners are going to see next week, behind the scenes and all that influencer celeb fan stuff you know ..

This is a post actually directed in part to the @nprofile…xmvk forum page of our free open source software community. I guess you heard the term #friendica already, as you are quite a while in the fedi, beginning with your #diaspora presence a long time ago. Our main coder @nprofile…rgpg is a fan of yours (if I got that right). I asked him the other day in a FOSDEM element chat, if he considers it possible that you make some drawings for friendica, maybe even for every new version, we have like two o three releases every year.
The idea came up because on this server we decided to use the following comic on the login/welcome page:

It seemed to me that Michael liked the idea to have some drawing by you, so I don't want to let the idea slip away and ask you, as well as the community, what everyone thinks about such an option. The same is true for doing this inside the friendica folder.
Does that just mean that "I don't get a working PHP with simply calling php on the commandline" or should I worry?
Again, this is most likely related to the -fpm install and I'll have to dig into that.

Public search is enabled on forum.friendi.ca. I guess, the theme simply doesn't show the search box for visitors.
Just tested your hint that worked and apparently the search is set only for hashtag search @nprofile…y6au. That's definitely not ideal for the purpose of finding old help content in my opinion.

I wondered that your answer didn't include the posted answer by @nprofile…wpfh that includes screenshots for how that account could achieve the redirect. Visiting this post on the helpers page itself resulted in the fact that that answer isn't available on the helpers forum page like this post over here (see the links). Looks to me that this is due to some strange bug/settings issue on this server over here, something about the "relation" of the admins profile with this profiles help request. I wonder if @nprofile…k9z3 or @nprofile…dqyx can see the answer with the screens by @nprofile…wpfh.
The same action proposed by the admin profile, following the link of the helpers forum of the post doesn't redirect from this profile so this has to be due to a setting in this profile about redirects and stay on the local server.

Right now I try how to figure out how to visite the helpers page as a regisered user. Looks to me that I saw some standard setting in the admin panel that set's an option "see local or visite originating site" and that as of now this is set over here as "see local".
In general I want this to be set like that but in this specific case I want to search the helpers forum for a problem I have right now. Actually I don't even know if I get access to the search option on forum.friendi.ca if I visite it as a registered contact.
In any case it's a pitty that the search box isn't available for common visitors because it would give us the oportunity to find answers to questions already directed to the community and solved by it.
How can I visite the helpers page as a logged in contact?
Maybe there is some simple string I can add in the URL that I can use from desktop?
Is there a chance to enable the search function in general on forum.friendi.ca?

There has been problems before with nearly all folders becoming owned by root.
In this upgrade I made the mistake to initialize bin/composer.phar install --no-dev as root but aborted that intent, changed to www-data and applied bin/composer.phar install --no-dev again.
Command applied now to asure that all folders will be owned by www-data.
chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/

Just had a look at the addons to see if there is some avatar addon I missed but it looks like that they are all to place some random avatar if there is none at all. Look's like that's right here and now a good #bugReport for the @nprofile…xyf2 and/or @nprofile…cqwj.
Adding details:
The kernel panic by #tusky was probably because of the neat beauty of the UI and was mentioned by JB who apparently runs dev version 2025.02 on ubuntu 2020.lts at the time.
(btw 2024.04lts still is somehow a mess, looks like never update to stable but only to old stable for a serious working environment)
The original post was send actually from friendica 2023.05 and forum.friendi.ca is on stable 2024.12.
As of now no idea if @nprofile…y6au ( oh there he is!) is available. He might be the one to delete on the helpers profile itself.
Over here the comments were deleted in the moment, so in any case, as the original link points to over here, there is also some harm reduction and some moderation capability already in the setup.
Actually the biggest problem seems to be that the answers do still show up on mastodon.
Looks like for mastodon the owner is the helpers page and not you or the profile over here.

That said, the "asking for permission" is if some instance simply mirrors profiles "without asking for permission" each profile or instance it pretends to mirror or duplicate. This in any case is basically about good manners, not technical possibilities.
I didn't dig into some apparent nostr discussion itself but saw the possibility to register a profile for mirroring it. Well, actually the only way this could happen in a correct respectful manner is that a profile follows an account that than interpretates that following as a request or permission to be mirrored.
Not interested in supporting bluesky or disrespectful folks in any way so I guess this list comes kinda preemptive handy.

Forward of some comments by @nprofile…ueu5 about the latest events in the walled VC gardens and the place #diaspora* actually still embodies in the fedi. Even tho I not only consider that his comments are on spot, without having any idea about the internal situation or discussion of #framasphere, in general there are a few things to point out.
Besides the fact that the diaspora community needs desperately #help by #coders and #developers to further their project, at least that what it sounds like, there is some certain "elitist" tribal viewpoint around that community, at least it feels like that. In general terms, this tribalism is a universal human skill, apparently coded deep into our DNA, and we witness this all the time. It's not different with other communities like #mastodon, or those who come from #twitter and refuse any change or questioning of their evolved culture, or what we experienced when #pluspora came along and started stirring up the fediVerse community by trying to impose their culture evolved on g+.
So, even if I for myself can envision a bright future for diaspora in the fediVerse, and I truly would like to see that community thrive again, as well as considering that their decision to not adopt #activityPub will stay in place, something that actually creates an interesting setup, what would be needed at least is a cooperative behavior with the coders of the platforms that create the bridge to the fediVerse. What we have is some kind of semipermeable wall that integrates but doesn't overwhelm the diaspora space. Last time we had this will to cooperate trully working, at least that's what @Mike mentioned in it's time, was the decisive help and attitude be @Ilya ❤️ . Without that, the integration with the fediVerse will always not only be flawed but probably even deteriorate as running behind coders that are overloaded with their tasks and anything but helpful in their attitude and behavior, sooner or later will perjudicate interaction and federation of the communities. It already did. So if for example framasphere were to reverse course, the cooperation for example with #friendica and #hubzilla, in terms of coding would be key I guess so diaspora can be really considered a part of the fediVerse in the future to come.
Just a few cents of thought, hope D* doesn't become some mayor Tom in our space, yet it looks to me that this isn't a matter of the vast majority of users on both sides, or the coders from over here.

I'm not going to go back on what happened now, but I think the important message here is, we need simple, privacy-respectful, easy-to-use social networks, and while diaspora* is far from perfect, it is still answering a need. Microblogging is a different thing and personally I really don't like it.
Maybe it's time to put around the table all the people who are ready to get involved and act?

Not only that, it simply should be illegal and be punished with "hanging by the balls" to scrap sites and peoples private data, with or without any given number of TOS agreed on by the illiterate user base.
Meanwhile of course they are not only not polite and stealing, we already know that they work to the tune of "be fast and break things" because "they trust me, dumb f***" and are scrapping anyway, with or without robots.txt. Not to mention the bots of the no such agencies.

Solltest du Interesse an dem Angebot haben friendica zu testen (keine Eile, wir laufen nicht weg) so kann ich mir vorstellen das wir zusammen mit @npub1nky…jt9l als backup und @npub1xlx…ef5z als VPS sponsor und backup dir einen solchen Server für ein Jahr aufsetzen könnten.
(für die beiden ist dieses Angebot so neu wie für dich aber mir scheint sie liegen auf deiner Mobilitätswendenwelle und die Idee könnte sie als Form einer Unterstützung für deine Arbeit ansprechen. Die eigentlichen "working hours" würden die Neuronen hinter diesem Profil hier stemmen, passt eigentlich ganz gut zu einem fast fertigen Projekt das eh beendet werden muss.)

Es gibt da so scheint es mehrere Aspekte die ineinander spielen.
Zum einen ist das fedi eine Nische in der sich viele versammelt haben die dem Kommerz der anderen zentralisierten gewinnorientierten Plattformen entkommen wollen. Dieser Position stößt jegliche "Reklame" (zu recht) schal auf.
Desweiteren haben wir ganz allgemein den Umstand das das fedi auf einer Art "Hobby-Vereinsmentalität" aufbaut in der "Service" zur Verfügung gestellt wird und wenn's hoch kommt irgendwo im Kleingedruckten eine IBAN/Paypal-Adresse steht. Mir ist noch kein admin untergekommen der mehr als ganz ganz selten auf die Möglichkeit seinen Service geldlich zu unterstützen hinweist. In diesem Sinne bist du der einzige mir hier Bekannte Kontakt der so dezidiert "Marketing" betreibt, gefolgt von @npub1pax…dt4f und digitalcourage.social, womit wir zu einem nächsten Punkt kommen:
Das fedi befindet sich in einem Umbruch, einem Kipp-punkt an dem entweder vernünftige Finanzierungsformen gefunden werden müssen oder aber es ein Nischendasein fristen wird. Das wäre zwar grundsätzlich kein großartiges Problem, hat über ein Jahrzehnt ganz gut funktioniert und wäre vielleicht sogar besser, gleichzeitig wäre es aber schade um das Potenzial das es birgt für den Erhalt einer sozialen freiheitlichen Demokratie.
Als nächstes kommt das Thema "Influenzer" dem hier so scheint es zum Glück ziemlich alle ziemlich kritisch gegenüber stehen. Nenne es meinetwegen "Menschen im öffentlichen Leben", so oder so beherbergt dieser Umstand offensichtlich Realitäten die du aussortieren musst bzw solltest. Der Hinweis "mach dir verschiedene Profile, friendica ist zum Beispiel eine ideale Software dafür und follower von dir wie @npub1nky…jt9l sind dort Coreentwickler die bestimmt gerne helfen damit das funktioniert!", sind bereits früher gefallen. Du kannst dir natürlich auch einfach ein zweites eher privates mastodon Profil erstellen um jene Aspekte, deiner Arbeit in Sachen Mobilitätswende und deine privates soziales engagiertes Leben, trennen. Tust du das nicht programmierst du Konflikte von vorne herein vor, das liegt so scheint es in der Natur der Sache. Um so mehr bei einer Software wie mastodon die nur "tröts nur für follower kennt", eine Option die du jedoch scheinbar gar nicht nutzt. Und auch bei dieser Funktion wiederum hat mastodon keine Möglichkeit in Gruppen zu differenzieren oder aber die Option "nur öffentliche Posts abonnieren".
Ein Frage deinerseits in Sachen: "wie viel Content von mir ist die richtige Balance für euch" lief ja bereits neulich über den Ticker. Im Stream dieses Profils und auch diese Knotens im fediVerse ist es eindeutig zu viel. Das hat nichts mit deiner Form und Häufigkeit des Veröffentlichens zu tun sondern mit der "gefühlten Menge hier". Dieses Profil wird dich höchstwahrscheinlich relativ bald entfolgen, aus genau jenem Grund, was nicht heißen soll das deine Infos auf dem Screen eines anderen Profils trotzdem auftauchen und dann wiederum selektiv nach hier portiert werden. Punkt ist letzten Endes das diese ganze "social media culture" eingespielt und aufgedrückt von perversen asozialen Interessen aus dem Silicon Valley einer Überarbeitung bedürfen und wahrscheinlich dein fedi hier, welches dir emotional gerade im letzten Jahr sehr zur Seite gestanden ist (das zumindest entspringt deinen toots) anders ist als tw/insta/fb und Konsorten.
In diesem Sinne wäre es wahrscheinlich überaus wichtig wenn du für die Konflikte die du erlebst und beschreibst, für dich und auch ganz allgemein für soziale Bewegungen hier im fedi die immer wieder auch Galionsfiguren haben werden, einen balancierenden Mittelweg findest. Ein Setup das die Interessen und Bedürfnisse jener die dir als so genannte "follower" auf die eine oder andere Art und Weise nahe stehen unter die verschiedenen Hüte bringt.
Jede Generation und Bewegung hat ihre Rosa Luxembourgs, Julian Assanges, Greta Thunbergs oder Joan d'Arcs. Zu verhindern das diese in irgend welchen Schützengräben, Strassengräben oder gar durch friendly fire über die Wupper gehen ist sicherlich unser aller bestreben und Teil unser aller Verantwortung. Dabei gibt es jedoch Entscheidungen und Momente die "wir" meist nicht treffen können bzw liegen an und in jedem einzelnen von uns. Bei dir als Sender in Verhalten und Setup und bei uns als Empfänger, Feedbacker, Replikatoren und Mitstreiter.

Ich bin zu dem Schluss gekommen das dies einfach eine genetische Bedingung ist die im Normalfall das Überleben einer Spezies sichert.
Status Quo ist was Mensch in seiner Jugend ge- und erlernt hat. In dieser Fase des Lernens gibt es dementsprechend zwangsläufig auch die Möglichkeit des Ausprobierens und Testens von neuem das noch nicht in der real existierenden Kultur verankert ist. Einmal Erwachsen ist Veränderung, Probieren und Neues nicht mehr angebracht weil es den Nachwuchs und somit das Überleben der Spezies an sich in Gefahr bringt. Deshalb sind Erwachsene retro und Konservativ, es gilt nur was sich bereits bewährt hat und das ist jenes was unsere Vorfahren bis hierher gebracht hat.
Konservatives beharren auf althergebrachtem ist dementsprechend einfach nicht nur normal sondern im Prinzip alternativlos vorprogrammiert. Nur außerordentliche Events oder Krisen können in diesem Sinne wahrscheinlich zu "umdenken" führen und dabei scheint es logisch das die neulich über den Ticker laufende Info zutreffend ist das es praktisch unmöglich ist bereits erlerntes Verhalten zu unterbinden oder zu verhindern. Das einzige was geht ist dieses abzuändern, zu verändern, zu ersetzen. Das Programm so zu sagen überschreiben, einfach nur löschen steht nicht in der Betriebsanleitung. Höchst wahrscheinlich muss gerade beim Versuch des Löschens das "extinction Verhalten" berücksichtigt werden. Das ist bei der positiv bestärkenden Hundeerziehung ganz gut beschrieben. Wenn bereits angelerntes Fehlverhalten plötzlich ignoriert wird führt das vorübergehend zu einer Verstärkung genau dieses unerwünschten Verhaltens den:
"Wie, kann doch gar nicht sein, das hat doch vorher immer funktioniert, wieso bekomme ich plötzlich keine Aufmerksamkeit mehr?
HALLO ICH BIN HIER UND BAUE MISST HÖRT UND SIEHT MICH DENN NIEMAND!!??!!?
Nach dieser Phase einer Verstärkung des Verhaltens erlischt es dann wenn es nicht zum gewünschten Erfolg führt.
Das Anbieten einer Ersatzhandlung, also das Kanalisieren der Handlung über Umwege in eine anderes erwünschtes sprich wünschenswertes Verhalten ist einfacher, weniger nervtötend und erzeugt direkten Mehrwert.
