Completely devastated after losing access to my Bitcoin wallet.
I’ve been buying Bitcoin since 2020. My initial goal was to reach 1 full Bitcoin, and I managed to get up to 0.88. I was buying almost every week for four years. I bought when it was at $69,000, at $16,000, and even when it went back over $100,000. I never thought about selling.
I’ve learned a lot about Bitcoin since I started. Bitcoin became my hope for wealth. I’m a strength and conditioning coach, self-employed. I don’t have a retirement plan; Bitcoin was my retirement.
Over the years, I invested all my savings into Bitcoin. Bitcoin represented hope for my financial future. It’s an opportunity for an ordinary person to achieve financial security. I deeply believe this.
Last week, I wanted to transfer my Bitcoin to a Jade wallet from my Ledger Nano S. I didn’t know you only get three attempts to enter your PIN before the Ledger resets itself. And that’s what happened. I thought it wouldn’t be a big deal since I had my recovery phrase written down somewhere.
I spent the entire weekend searching my small two-bedroom apartment, looking in every nook and cranny. I checked every shoe, jacket pocket, pants pocket, drawer, and closet, but I couldn’t find my recovery phrase.
Now my Bitcoin is inaccessible on the blockchain, and I’ve spent most of the week feeling hopeless. I’m usually an optimistic, inspired person who tries to inspire others. That’s what makes me a good coach. But this week, I’ve felt demotivated and pessimistic about everything. I’m devastated and feel hopeless.
With Bitcoin, I knew I’d be financially secure in 10 to 20 years. But all of that is gone. Life feels meaningless, stuck in this endless grind. It feels like there’s no way out.
I come from nothing and have had to climb mountains against all odds my entire life. I’ve earned money before and lost it all. I’ve fallen, slipped, been knocked down 100 times, but I always get back up. I always fight to come back—it’s never been easy.
There’s no resilience without adversity, no courage without fear. I will fight to come back and reach that goal of 1 Bitcoin. I’ll find a way.
If anyone has advice on how to move forward or tips that might help me, I’d be really grateful. I know I’ve been foolish, or whatever people might say—I’ve been blaming myself for this mistake all week. You never think it can happen to you until it does. I’d truly appreciate any help or guidance on dealing with this situation.
I want this to be a lesson for everyone: protect your recovery phrase like your life depends on it! Keep it in a safe place, somewhere you’re certain you’ll never lose it. It’s so important—there are no second chances. This is part of the responsibility that comes with independence. Please, learn from my pain and don’t neglect your security.

Satoshi Nakamoto wrote code that was not usual. He had many quirks. We can find him by comparing his code with others, but no one did that yet.
When I first saw their code, I thought "Satoshi is not a programmer" because of how weird it was. He didn't follow normal code practices that were modern at that time.
He made big use of locks when it was out of fashion. He used Hungarian notation which was no longer used. He made spaghetti function recursion and never used objects to encapsulate processes. He also targeted Windows.
All of this indicate an older person, possibly not a software dev but from a close domain like engineering or physics. His whitepaper hinted at a background with a practical focus but not a mathematician.
The code was highly idiosyncratic and personal including the style itself. Analysis of the code will tell us everything.
You can even compare the code from 2008 with the code in 2010, and the way Satoshi writes code doesn't change. You can actually see the change from proof of concept to hacked up Satoshi node.
Whenever anyone says X is Satoshi, my first response is always "show me the code". This should be our default position.
But no Bitcoin coder (including myself) cares enough to do this. We're all so busy with real work. And I guess we also respect Satoshi-kun's wishes. Even writing this post showing how we can find him feels almost like a betrayal.
To be fair to Peter Todd, he handled it well and didn't try to claim undue credit.
