The difference between the USSR & former Eastern bloc before 1990 and EU & Romania today is that there was no false pretense of free elections under the Soviet Regime.
Something to think about the modern day so-called “liberal” order.
Before Calin Georgescu won the first round of elections in Romania, the system had no issues with him. Only after his victory did they realize the danger he posed to the EU dictatorship, which risked exposure.
Romanians desire only free and democratic elections, and the EU dislikes that.
