I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately in terms of the idea that we are all individuated pieces of the same consciousness, ie the thought that we are all “one”. After all, governments and corporations are just made up of individuals, enacting policies in a perpetually adversarial environment.

Why does it seem to be the nature of emergent, dominant systems and institutions, like governments and corporations, to be parasitic, while we are, as individuals (in my experience), generally seeking opportunities for synergy and common ground?

When do governments and organizations get corrupted into vampiric monoliths? Is it a function of size? Or the existence of a few “bad apples” spoiling the basket?

Why do social structures become predominantly extractive of a disproportionate amount of the time and energy of the individuals that form them, through force, threat of force, and fear of loss?

Are most individuals, by design, meant merely to be expended as fuel for the engine of the creators’ vehicles; to be ever squeezed to a greater degree to produce value?

Who are the drivers? CEO’s and heads of corporations I suppose. The ones who understood early enough in life, through experience, birth or upbringing that they can be one of two things: masters or slaves.

One thing is clear. Employment is not the answer for those of us who have noticed the dichotomy and wish for more than an eventual mere subsistence. It is up to us to be either creators or the fuel. There doesn’t seem to be another option.

I guess it explains why, in an industrialized world, that our education systems mainly turn out obedient worker bees.

Do we have to be extractive in all of our dealings to be successful in worldly terms? Or is industry itself the cause of the corruption? I’ve never worked for anyone who has ever been willing to fairly share the successes and value I have created for their organizations.

All I have gained is an understanding of the parable that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven.

What is the destination of this vehicle? Is it a dead end road? Or a pathway to the stars?
