Why Nostr? What is Njump?

rabble on Nostr: If we can’t make a social media ecosystem where people feel safe enough to share ...

If we can’t make a social media ecosystem where people feel safe enough to share then they’ll go somewhere else. It’s like a dark ally in a city without anyone doing public safety. You can walk down these back alleys but it’s risky. If you’re strong and have guns you’re fine. Or if you’ve got a security guard. Or if you have a lot of social capital protecting you, most people won’t mess with you.

But on nostr we see folks who don’t have that power or protection be attacked with death threats for posting a selfie or doxxed for publishing an accurate content report. This kind of harassment silences speech. We need tools that let folks feel safe enough to share and build communities. Otherwise they’ll opt for the evil mall cop an corporate social media platforms because at least there is some safety in that authoritarianism.

Read the experiences if women on Nostr
I think it’s easy to say just mute the person. But if you don’t have the lived experience of being a woman, or being part of a marginalized group, you will never understand our experience, especially what it’s like to be on nostr.

I love nostr AND it’s challenging to be here because it feels like (again, from my perspective) another man’s world; built by men, for men, that only men will truly benefit from (if you feel defensive after reading that, you may want to self-reflect on why).

I understand the purpose and updates being made consistently. But without some type of protection from the /harassment/hate, I just can’t see nostr expanding the ways it’s envisioned.

I appreciate the men on here that have been kind to me and have my back. You’re the only reason I’ve stayed 🫂

And please don’t come for me, I’m tired today 😂

Other platforms allow users to be blocked and reported and potentially banned from using the platform for hate/harassment/etc. This isn’t the case on nostr of course because that completely goes against the whole foundation of nostr.

There’s too many issues to list, but you can research it if it’s helpful. To me, it feels like a microcosm of being a woman in the world. For example, I posted a picture of myself but then received hate for it because I’ve brought up mistreatment by other nostr men (aka if I post a picture like that then I deserve mistreatment). We’re held to the same BS societal guidelines here as we are in the real world. And when women bring up the issues here (in a kind way), we’re still unheard, harassed, and not considered. We just want our experiences to be considered, not dismissed. I hope that helps.
