Today marks the first day of work on making
https://www.21ideas.org open source. I’ve been working on this project for almost 4 years now making it the most exhaustive #Bitcoin-only resource in Russian. It is read by the people from over 15 countries, where Russian is either the mother tongue, or an unofficial secondary language. There are tens of thousands of monthly visits and all the materials provided there are free and will always remain that way. I am now starting to feel that this is too big to rest on my shoulders, and I’ve decided to gift it to the community. Making this beast open to contributions and eventually run by a number of enthusiasts, rather than having a single point of failure like myself is the only way forward.
I’ve created a dedicated list to update everyone interested in the ongoing process and receive your valuable feedback and suggestions: naddr1qqgrx7f4wd4rgv3jx9mh56fjwac82q3q0awzknjg5r5lajnr53438ndcyjylgqsrnrtq5grs495v42qc6awsxpqqqp6nz2fcfe3
P.S. even though
PABLOF7z (npub1l2v…ajft) claims that highlighter for mobile is still raw, I enjoyed composing the quoted note on my iPhone mini 😄. Thank you for this amazing tool, brother, it helps me a ton! Open source tools for open source projects. LFG!
https://highlighter.com/ Had a call with @ npub1qy672dr858panklxylmcqtv32v7u4w5slug3mkjsx47e2vg6a39qmhvf7x to discuss the roadmap of open sourcing https://www.21ideas.org/
Very productive. Lots of work ahead, but there’s nothing that can’t be done.
Key takeaways:
1. Gotta rework the structure to make it more clear and easy for anyone to be able to contribute. This will be our main focus for the time being. If we rush this or cut some corners, the project will turn into a mess.
2. Will reach out to the followers and ask for feedback and suggestions from the community to ensure we are building something that makes sense for the society, not just for the geeks like myself. It is vital to consider readers’ feedback at an early stage to avoid the do-overs later.
3. Came up with an interesting approach to transferring content. I will prepare a detailed guide on how to use GitHub and do pull requests and ask the community to help out with moving the content from the existing platforms (copy stuff from current site, turn into markdown, make a PR). This will be a cool way to educate people on the power of open projects and give everyone a chance to contribute to a project they like. Will reward sats and award #Nostr badges to the contributors.
There’s much more I’ll be sharing later on.
