Yes, that is indeed the point, and also the point i tried to make in my FOSDEM presentation.
Form there, there is this inherrent logic to approach things; stuff we are figuring out allong the way like 'outbox', blossom, WoT etc. This is also why imo this is a proper paradigm, where Nostr (NIP01) is not defining the parimeters, but simply the suggestion of taking this step into this whole vast new world.
NIP01 is more like a method, and we can figure out all obvious problems (sybil, spam etc) and not so obvious problems allong the way. Other protocols jump the gun and try to solve for a lot of these things immediatly, and that is probably what kept them stuck in the old server oriented paradigm. Or they went full p2p, which is admirable but just a total clusterfuck by itself.
