"summary",
"TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker, has notified Chinese chip design companies that it will no longer manufacture AI chips at advanced process nodes of 7 nanometres or smaller. The move is in response to US restrictions aimed at hobbling China's artificial intelligence capabilities, which Washington fears could be used to develop bioweapons and launch large-scale cyberattacks. The US has imposed a range of measures to restrict the shipment of advanced GPU chips to China, including a $500,000 penalty on New York-based GlobalFoundries for shipping chips without authorization to an affiliate of blacklisted Chinese chipmaker SMIC."
