Something I love to find when learning bits of gaming history: how technical limitations lead to creative solutions and often more interesting outcomes.
Examples I usually use, but there are a million others: F-Zero - a racing game, but they made it hovercrafts and futuristic with circle boundaries because that ended up being a lot easier to animate and fit in.
Mario Kart 64 - supposedly, the blue shell was added out of fear of racers getting too separated stressing the 64s limited memory.
