Behavioural standards are pretty much abysmal across politics. Name-calling doesn't really serve, and I will plead to have fallen into that... trap more than once. Mea culpa.
It's still not that complicated, once you remove the reasons for fear. But nobody wants to do that, because it's a useful weapon to gain short-term power over others. Blame, someone once said, was the second sin. Beliefs notwithstanding, she was right.
