What I've been gleaming from BookTok/BookTube is that readers want tropes, subverted or played into. Genre is a \"nice to have\", but tropes are quickly becoming \"need to have\". Readers are hunting down more of what they want and the best way for them to do that at a glance is by knowing what tropes you're working with. So it allows genre to be more flexible. 🤷♀️ I'm no expert though. This is just what I've been able to gleam from afar",
