A combo of GUI and CLI. That's my best environment for most longer tasks.
All the arguing over which is better, and I'm like "Nah nah, mix 'em!"
My god I love my drop down terminal! Of every improvement I've seen to #Linux (at least MY installs of it, and I'm counting an application), drop down terminals are my favorite.
Yakuake is my fave, but Guake is just as handy.
