Putting together two problems (the crisis in rising mortgage payments & rents, and the inequity of pay for women) lead you to a third compound problem:
Most single women are effectively excluded from home ownership or renting by themselves across the entire country.
So an earlier move to co-habittaion (with a partner who you may not be totally sure about) both more attratkicve & potentially more dangerous (coercive control or worse).
