Germophobia + Autism is a... "fun" combination.
A germ exposure definitely can send me in to meltdown if it was unexpected, or I don't have access to wash up, or if it was my face or in my hair.
I fight very hard not to melt in that situation cause then I can't clean it. But if I do melt, it can become a self worsening situation till it spirals entirely out of control and eventually there is not enough energy to sustain that meltdown.
If it's bad enough, shutdown follows.
