Not a uk'er but I did experience difficulty launching back in u.s. during a recession. Finding out where the skills were needed was the key. I am disturbed in u.s. this gig economy -- part time work is no way to pick up skills. As far as applications not being acknowledged, well that has always been the case in u.s.
