If the voters all paid attention in grade school history class, they would understand that it didn't end well for any autocratic leader. Hitler went to his bunker and put a bullet thru his brain. Mussolini was shot and hung upside down in public so people could spit on him.
BUT what they should have learned is that it was a worse ending for those who supported and followed them ....
