…because the first cleat had failed, putting more stress on the second, when it suddenly had to carry over a hundred pounds of tools by itself, rather than sharing the load. I’ve reinforced the other 2 cleats on that wall and put up new, but I’m going to need to do a lot of cleaning over the next few days, rather than #woodworking as I had planned. Ugh.
The new screws holding the cleats are 3 inch deck screws, which should have plenty of holding power, and be plenty deep into the studs.
