The brain’s desire to find patterns is fascinating.
While I’ve been reading, I keep thinking I hear rock music in the distance. But when I pay actual attention to the sounds around me, I realize it’s just the sounds of multiple fans pulsing against each other plus some other equipment in the vicinity. There is not actual rock music in earshot: no synthesizer, no guitars, no incomprehensible people with harsh vocal styles (I don’t know the technical term). My brain is filling in the gaps.
