I can totally understand that line of thinking and don't consider you paranoid in that regard. The people in power will always seize upon conflict to extend the grasp of the surveillance/security state.
However, this has a much simpler answer. These are radical leftists who consider jizzrael to be undertaking a genocide on Palestinians (they are) & consider them colonizers so they are taking to their usual communist/radical playbook of disruption and low-level terrorist activities.
