From personal experience in black schools, if there's no wig then there's some heavy gel fixing the hair in place instead, which is very shiny and obvious. If you don't see that, then it's either a weave or a mulatto that can manage long natural hair.
... I feel like it's strange to know this much about black women, but I'm an American, it kinda comes up.
