The hybrid figure has to be interpreted with care as it includes both vehicles with a plug and usable electric range and those (like Toyota) where the motive power ultimately comes from burning fossil fuels. The former kind is progress in my book — especially if the owners actually achieve their day’s driving needs on battery power and ultimately come to question why they’re dragging an ICE engine around.
