Its a nuanced issue and not starkly one way on the other.
On one hand you have some devs saying: We need to add this new thing because that will solve lots of scaling / onboarding issues.
On the other side, the argument is: (a) prove that and (b) its possible to build something that technically works, but is impossible to practically build a workflow around so that these 'newbies' could even use (take a look at how complicated LN already is)
Do not forget that its going to be an effort to soft-fork, its not just send a few emails around and it magically happens. The political process of soft-forking is going to have its own unrelated drama
