Mega corporations took over the studios in the late 80's. They found that the largest demographic of movie-goers were 15 year old males. They started making movies ONLY for that demogrphic. This is why indie films had a splash in the later 90's. Adults were starved for a movie that exhibited anything above sophmoric drivel.
