To me the main issue isn't the format, but the fact that each DVM type requires a different button and custom screens. Bundling all DVMs as one thing is never going to work, even if they expose their schemas and have a round of discovery, because in the end, a programmer must adapt its code to EACH dvm.
Otherwise, you are limited to "chat" interfaces, which are a terrible UI for most practical appliations.
