I've seen people justify using Erhus to represent Japan with "well Japan has an equivalent called the Kokyu"
Like... no... the Kokyu isn't even related to the Erhu, it originated in the Ryukyus from trade with Indonesia and Thailand, it's closer to the Saw Sam Sai than the Erhu. Not only that, it sounds entirely different from the Erhu. You're better off using it's Middle Eastern ancestor, the Rebab
