Did you know that women in England and Wales can get a life sentence for inducing their own abortion "illegally" i.e. without getting doctor's permission (buying pills online, for instance)?
So, if you've been raped, found yourself pregnant and can't face seeing a doctor, you could end up with a much longer sentence than the rapist (in the increasingly unlikely event that the rapist even gets taken to court).
This isn't a theoretical issue. In the last 12 months, according to The British Pregnancy Advisory Service, 6 women have been taken to court for inducing abortion to end her own pregnancy.
