It's federated yes. But if an admin on the instance I signed up with doesn't like something I say they can ban my account and delete all my posts.
Those admins also control what I see on the global feed. If they have beef with another server they can block it completely.
Many even do this in an automated fashion, e.g. Fediblock.
With Nostr... no one can ban me, there's no account to remove, the only person who controls what I can or can't see is myself.
The control is in the hands of the user here whereas with fedi you just swap one dictator (Zuck, Elon, etc) for another (admin of your instance).
