Going by gut feeling is arguably the superior method. Gotta figure out how to ignore the voices in my head first, though. I guess all else will follow after that.

Right, I completely forgot about the distinction from arts and crafts. That said, your understanding of arts and their duty to be real is really interesting to me, and also feels like something I already knew, but couldn't point it out. When I write I'm sometimes interrupted by thoughts of how easier or more fun would it be to write my story full of the tropes in the easily consumed novels I've read, but then I think that would not really be the story I'd like to tell, nor something I'd tell, in any case, as that would be way to disconnected from my reality, or carry none of it at all.
From now I'll read every sentence in my stories, then look at the fourth wall and ask "Chat, is this real?"
