TLDR: I would say it does, in fact, make you a furry despite what Reddit says
While yes the label “furry” itself is not inherently sexual, it can be and I 100% believe you are automatically a furry if you decide to consume furry pornography, which is commonly known as “yiff,” with the intention of masturbation, it’s pretty clear that you are in fact a furry. Especially since the internet has easy access to all sorts of porn, fanfiction, hentai, and more.
However, do know the distinction between normal furries, those who consume yiff, mursuiters, and zoophiles.
Zoophiles are not furries and never will be allowed in the furry community. They are frowned on
Mursuiters make special fursuits and do sexual activities in them, may be aroused by it. Not my thing but who am I to kinkshame. Besides, they sort of founded the furry community which grew to be less kink focused over time

A furry itself isn’t inherently someone who likes the nsfw parts of the fandom, but plenty of furries do and it’s a matter of preference.
The only exception to all of this would be if you didn’t know what you were masturbating to somehow, and later found out it was furry content. That’s a different story, but furry content is pretty hard to miss.
