The various news organizations that the US funds across the world are pretty vital for US soft power, and for better or worse they also have generally legitimately offered information that authoritarians would rather their populaces not have. The total abandonment of the US international aid system is similarly dire. But even more concerning is things like shuttering the department of net assessment, which means that Hegseth's neo-crusader army is going to have a *lot* less information about enemy capabilities. This is the sort of thing that leads to Russia's Three Day Special Military Operation, like these steps are how you produce a state that can only do geopolitics through military force, and also its' military is really rotted out from the inside.
