From a freedom perspective #Bitcoin and #Monero is a codependent pair, where there will always be ways of trading between them.
The same way that fully, REAL free markets always arises anywhere Monero is our only real safeguard for online price discovery, which also includes the real world via anonymous, free markets.
However, at least for the few next years Bitcoin will suck up almost all of the monetary value, while Monero will be very content doing its thing in quiet ways, perhaps except a speculative spike in a while.
Furthermore Monero will remain a driver for privacy on Bitcoin Lightning, as well as setting the standard for micropayments that WORK.
Its not a good idea to underestimate both the numbers of devs working on Lighting as well as the smaller, very dedicated numbers working on Monero.
They will both do well, but the mass adoption will happen on Lightning, especially when projects like Ark gets going for real!
As of now the overall experience from a freedom perspective is much better with Monero, which ensures that it will be a driver for developing the same on Lightning.
The ONLY thing that can stop developments like these is echo chamber thinking! Yes its totally OK to support ONE project only, to invest time and monetary energy into whatever you like, but remember that the majority of end users will never even know anything about the whole ecology, and especially the techie echo chamber parts!
They'll use what WORKS, then they'll talk about & spread that, as always :-)
