I'm not sure about that definition. In modern society, we have no choice but to depend on people who produce products in remote countries, that help us live and make our lives tolerable.
So independence, if it means, no reliance on other people, will mean life is reduced to subsistence farming, and the economy will crash with it.
I've discussed with SHTF people, and being dependent on a small community where you help each other, to me, sounds like an essential
