As my personal philosophies evolved to see some of the harms in the "if you believe it strongly enough you can manifest it" in the Richard Back/James Redfield/etc "New Age" thinking, I confess that I never expected to see those magical thinking attitudes surface so strongly in Republican opinions about transportation policy.
