Besides the post-cyberpunk-ish in the present ambience, the complete devotion to The Murphy Philosophy:
1. If anything can go wrong, it will
2. No good deed goes unpunished
3. Everything will get worse before it gets worse
4. Tomorrow you'll remember this day as "the good old times"
But of course, there's good things happening in the story. Maybe not to the cast, but good things happen…>=)
