I wouldn't fault them for selling Nitro that much pre-pandemic, but given that Discord now very much embraces the AI hype (for built-in moderaton and optional integrations) and is gradually pushing out indie devs, I wouldn't let it go that easily. Also, Aliucord (modded Discord client on Android) still tries to maintain the version with the old UI, so maybe try that if you'd like.
