That's now what he's saying and not what the suggestion implies.

He is specifically talking about relays that are both big and public (which I assume he means free of charge to write).

The eventual centralization of the network (as in: most people all use a few big relays) is a phaenomenon that can happen regardless.

It also make sense in order to spread nostr that new users are not hit with a ton of bad content the day they start, or they simply leave immediately.

It is just a marketing idea.
I’ve known Fiatjaf for over 10 years, way longer than most people here, so I’ve seen both the good and the not-so-good sides. He’s definitely made some big contributions early on—especially in the first couple of years when everyone was working together—but recently, I’ve noticed a shift in how he operates. From my point of view, it seems like he’s leaning more toward things like censorship, centralization, and not prioritizing privacy as much, which is a bit worrying considering the core values of this space.

This isn’t meant to take away from everything he’s done or who he is—it’s just something I’ve noticed. I’d honestly love to see him get back to the principles that made his early work so important.
