Filmmaker JL Burgos has unveiled a documentary film titled 'Alipato at Muog (Flying Embers and a Fortress)' that aims to uncover the truth behind the enforced disappearance of his older brother, activist Jonas Burgos, and other victims in the Philippines. The film, which is a finalist in the Cinemalaya 2024 film festival, sheds light on the issue of enforced disappearances in the country, with approximately 1,912 desaparecidos still missing since the Martial Law period. The documentary combines testimonials from witnesses and family members, animation, and never-before-seen footage to tell the story of the relentless search for Jonas Burgos. The film will be released during the Cinemalaya 20th year celebration in August 2024.
