Chess is fundamentally a language with its own grammar and vocabulary, and each game is a conversation. Conversely, each conversation is also a game of chess. We always seek to collaborate (trade) on terms favorable to ourselves (or at least not unfavorable). When cooporation doesn't work, we use threats. Sometimes we threaten in secret and sometimes overtly. Sometimes our goals are well known to our interlocutor, but sometimes our calculation is so deep as to be leaning on the unconscious mind, and be unknown even to ourselves. There are reoccurring motifs and patterns to human interaction, and those who can recognize these, correctly evaluate the "position", and calculate or else recall the "correct" way forward, will have an advantage, and indeed go on to dominate in their chosen field.
