The villains are treated as too nuanced for scorn to come across from them to me. Just listen to this monologue from the main villain. There is definitely an understanding of what a lot of people feel about today’s world that reads as more cautionary in the “be careful of what you’re willing to do to make what’s right” way than the “Christianity is bad, Sunday school is boring, become an atheist, and pour coffee on yourself” way. In fact, you could even take from the game a Christian moral: when the Anti-Christ appears, we will be so inundated in sinful behavior that no one will be able to tell who he is, not even himself, so always be vigilant of what is right and lean not on your own or society’s understanding.
